Sopwith Camel - The Miraculous Hump Returns From The Moon

The sophmore effort from Sopwith Camel is a proggy, hippy trip of a record. These San Francisco cats were the brain child of Peter Kraemer, or at least the band's name was. After hitting the charts with "Hello, Hello", penned by Kraemer and guitarist Terry MacNeil, in 1966, it took a year for the group's first full length lp (the eponymous Sopwith Camel) to appear. After a tour with The Lovin' Spoonful, the band dissolved, a casualty to inner-band disagreements and bad luck.

After some time apart, the group reformed in 1971. The second lp followed in 1973. Drummer Norman Mayell, who played with Blue Cheer during their hiatus, brings sitar and the marimba into the mix. The rest of the original line-up returns too, with the exception of guitarist William Sievers. MacNeil and Kraemer are penning the songs again. But with greater sophistication, blurring genre lines, to offer up this timeless record. Check it out below. This is a limited pressing (750 copies) on marbled 'smoke' vinyl from Real Gone Music.
